Unconsenting Body

The whale is bound with rope using techniques inspired by kinbaku, a Japanese rope bondage in which consent and trust are essential. In this work, consent is clearly absent. The animal is unable to speak or refuse, still legally hunted in Norway, Japan, and Iceland, among the last countries to permit it.

The work exemplifies the dynamic of imposing will through a medium of restriction. Reflecting on how both human and non-human bodies are held within systems of control.
